Comfort women’s shoes – Naot, Curvetures, Dansko?

I own a pair of Dansko’s that I love, but I have not tried Naot or Curvetures. How do these brands compare to Dansko? Which do you find most comfortable? Thanks!

I would actually go for a pair of merrels. They are extremely comfortable and have many defferent styles. whether you want a sandal, tennis shoe, dress shoe, or some cute flip flops they have them all. And they are all pretty cute. If I were you I wouldn’t go for the Naot- not the best choice, but I guess the Curvetures are a better choice, if you had to go between the two. But in my opinion merrels are far superior!

The Come-Back of the Clog

The clog, a type of footwear now in fashion, evolved from a shoe traditionally worn by mining workers and farmers. Then, used as a protective piece of clothing, the clog has now developed into: sandals, high-heeled footwear, as well as boots.  This spring, and what seems to be, fall seasons, clogs are hitting stores in a variety of designs.

There are so many types of clogs; it is virtually impossible to name them all.  The original clog was made out of wood (willow, poplar or birch), and was regularly associated with countries such as:  Sweden, Belgium, Denmark and The Netherlands.  The thick soles of the shoe served as protective gear against heat, rock and some acids.  Some of the original clogs were also developed with ‘toecaps’ (steel or variant metal reinforced toes).  Factory workers handling large equipment most often wore this style of shoe.

Although the clog has now developed into a footwear statement, worn by women and men worldwide, some gardeners and farmers continue to wear the original wooden clog in Holland.  Clog dancing, or clogging is also still a pastime that is practiced today.  During the mid-nineteenth century competitions were even held for such traditional dancing.

It was not until the early 1970′s that the clog began to be worn as a fashion accessory.  Men in Sweden would wear the clogs with socks.  Women would wear them, more as a sandal.  Women also wore raised clogs that had soles as high as six to eight inches.  In the late seventies, the fad came to the United States and other western countries.  Clogs came equipped with buckles, laces, straps and zippers.  They were also created from raw wood and leather to match a look of freedom that some hippies exhibited.  In the disco era, the taller clogs were worn to dances and clubs.

Today, such designers as Steve Madden, Stewart Weitzman and Nicole Richie have developed their own style of the clog.  Madden has designed an airy, light model, while Stewart Weitzman has developed a clog from a vintage point of view.  Nicole Richie is keeping it raw with her animal prints and thick leather wears this season.

This 2010 spring season, Chanel even rocked clogs down the runway as an accessory to be exhibited.  Sarah Jessica Parker has been spotted on several occasions wearing flirty clogs, with ribbon or leather straps up the calf.  This past summer Morgan Yakus’s version of the lined clog bootie was completely sold out in Manhattan last winter.  Patent leather, suede and printed clogs are also on the verge of becoming insanely over-popular.

Whether you have an idea of a clog being a fad from the seventies, or dance shoes for countries possessing an overabundance of tulips, the fad is back.  Clogs can change up any fashion statement. Whether with denim, shorts or perhaps a classy romper, these shoes are definitely making the news.

Teva Sandals – The Water Keeper Soles

Why to take a risk of your expensive pair of shoes, which will get heavy when wet in water when Teva sandals are always your sporting companion. Mark Thatcher, inventor of Teva sandals in 1982, was working as a river guide in the Grand Canyon. He found most of the shoes useless during boating and hiking and understood that it was time to make something different. Like others, his fear of risking sneakers getting wet provoked him to make suitable footwear, and this provoking thought was a call for the first sports sandals ever. The whole footwear industry, was revolutionized when Teva (means nature) hit the shelves. Before getting his invention patented, Thatcher sold more than 200 pairs himself. More and more professionals and outdoor fans loved Teva sandals because of their traction control and agility.

Teva has a dedicated team working on fundamentals of playing in water. Teva encourages people to walk fearless on a slippery edge and be adventurous on a patch of ice. Teva sandals maintain a perfect balance and protection from water. Teva’s lab known as T.I.D.E (The Innovative Design Elements) is facilitating with a team of innovative scientists. As T.I.D.E promises durability and innovation, its shoes have a perfect grip with the three-toed sloths.

Not only water sports footwear, but also a grand collection of women’s sandals is available for great comfort experience. Including most demanding Tirra Leather, Pretty Rugges Nylon 3, Hurricane XLT, Zlich, Haloa, Ventura Cork2 Leather, Meadow Luxe, Mush print, Brea TMG, Omnium, Mandalyn Wedg Ola, lllum Leather, Contoured Ribbon Mush, and Neota is available on stores. Most favorite sandals from men’s collection are Toachi 2, Terra Fi3, Tanza, Brea TMG, Benson, Sutter Creek, Cardenas Fisherman, Fossil Canyon, Obern, Zlich, Katavi Leather, and Agate Thong.

Teva has been concentrating on three different categories to provide different benefits a customer can ask for. T.I.D.E Grip uses Vibram and Durabrasion technology. Vibram fabricates unmatchable outsoles, assuring durability and versatility. Durabrasion rubber gives a great balance of durability and performance, which assures ultimate experience. Another fundamental used by Teva sandals is T.I.D.E Hydro. Its revolutionary formula keeps water out of your shoes but also keeps your feet from sweating, leaving them dry, inside out. The drain frame technology keeps your pair from squishing and leaves your feet and sandals dry.

Lastly, the T.I.D.E Comfort comes with ShocPad, which gives you a smooth cushion in your walk, maximizing your performance. It also comes with a 3M Thinsulate insulation, which keeps the feel of your feet alive, in most dense and cold scenarios. With all these super-cool perks at their hand (or should I say feet), Teva sandals are a must buy from Shoebuy. Shoebuy has the best deals and offers, and with their easy order processing.

Teva sandals come in all colors and designs and are must buy for everyone.

Tips for the Ballroom Dancing Novice

1. Just do it! Too many would-be dancers have convinced themselves, or let others tell them, that they ‘just can’t dance’, so they never even attempt to learn. If you can walk, you can learn to dance. Ballroom dancing is composed of steps, forward, back, to the side, and in place. It’s the combining of these steps in different ways that creates the pattern of a dance. The steps are learned one at a time, just like when you were two and learning to walk! Don’t let anyone discourage you, you CAN learn to dance!

2. Choose a studio carefully. All dance studios are not the same. It has been my experience that the best value for the money is with a locally owned, independent studio, rather than one of the nationwide chains. This is not always the case, but I’ve found it to be true more times than not. I would also strongly suggest that you find a studio that caters specifically to ballroom dancing, not one whose primary interest is ballet, tap, jazz, with only a couple of ballroom classes added as an afterthought.

3. Sign up first for a beginner group class. I recommend this for several reasons. Group classes are usually quite reasonably priced so there is no huge initial outlay of cash. Everyone in the group is just like you, a beginner, so there’s less chance of feeling silly if you miss a step or two. (And you will, but so will everyone else. You’ll quickly learn to just laugh it off and keep going.) Whether or not you have a partner will not matter in a group class. Most instructors will rotate the partners in a class, partially to take care of uneven numbers of men and women, but also to improve each member’s ability to lead, if you’re a man, or follow, if you’re a woman. There’s a lot of joking and laughing during group classes as everyone learns new skills and makes mistakes doing so. They’re always a lot of fun, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you begin looking forward to the next class. Classes generally meet once a week, usually for an hour, for a period of 6 or 8 weeks, at which time you can choose to continue with that class or choose another.

4. Don’t get discouraged! You’ll probably come away from that first class feeling a bit overwhelmed and letting negative thoughts invade your head, telling you that you’ll never get it right. Simply not true! You fortunately can’t remember back when you were two and first learning to walk. How many times do you suppose you fell on your tushie before you actually made it all the way across the room?
What if you had told yourself to just give up, this is too hard, I’ll never learn this? I guess we’d all still be crawling! No, don’t give up. When you get home, try to repeat at least some of the steps you learned during that first class. Even if you can’t remember them by the time you get to your car, the next class almost always starts with a review of the last class. If you’ll stick to it for the duration of the 6 or 8 week session, you’ll come out on the under end with the knowledge of some basic moves under your belt, I promise.

5. What should you wear to class? The attire worn to ballroom dance classes is as varied as the people who attend them. Some wear jeans or slacks, some women prefer to dance in skirts or dresses. Wear clothes that are comfortable, perhaps a little loose, to give you the freedom to move without constriction. Another thing to consider when choosing your apparel is temperature. Most studios are kept a little on the cool side, so you may be tempted to wear a sweater or long-sleeved shirt. I would advise against this. Believe it or not, your body temperature will increase as you dance, to the point that some people actually perspire. A short-sleeved, lightweight shirt will serve you well. Be clean, casual and comfortable.

6. Your choice of shoes can make the difference between enjoying ballroom dancing and not being able to even master the steps. Please don’t make the mistake of wearing rubber-soled shoes. They don’t offer the proper traction for sliding, spinning or turning. A loafer-type is good, or any shoe with a smooth sole. For women, a shoe with a heel makes for attractive movements, but certainly isn’t a necessity when you’re first getting started. Later on, you may want to consider purchasing a pair of dance shoes. These are specifically designed to be worn on the dance floor and nowhere else. The soles are suede, allowing them to slide easily, which makes turns and spins almost effortless. Some studios offer dance shoes for sale, or there are many sites online from which you can order. I also don’t recommend wearing open-toed shoes, such as sandals or flip-flops. Remember you’re in a beginning class, and there is always the possibility of someone accidentally stepping on those toes!

7. Arrive a few minutes before the time the class actually begins. There is typically a sign-in sheet and many studios give out name tags to help you learn your fellow dancers. If you have dance shoes, you’ll need those extra minutes to change from your street shoes. Arriving early also gives you the opportunity to mingle a bit with others who are there for the same class. Nothing disrupts a class more than someone rushing in late while the instructor is demonstrating a new step.

8. Commit to practice. You will never become proficient in ballroom dancing, (or anything else, for that matter) without practice. If you’re having a problem with a particular step or pattern, it’s perfectly acceptable to hang around a few minutes after class and go through it a time or two with your partner. Practice the steps at home once or twice a day, you’ll be amazed how much better you retain them throughout the week and it will make the next class just that much easier. This is another benefit of arriving early for class, it affords you the time to practice those steps once more before the instructor begins. Most studios also offer a ‘practice party’ or ‘studio dance’ weekly or monthly. These are excellent for praacticing what you’ve learned as well as seeing the more accomplished dancers, which is what you’re striving to become! I can’t emphasize enough the importance of the studio dances and the role they play in honing your dancing skills. Make plans to attend whenever possible, even when you’re new and just starting out. Maybe even ESPECIALLY when you’re new and just starting out! The seasoned dancers are always happy to help a newcomer and the dances provide a perfect complement to your classes.

9. Enjoy all the non-dancing benefits of ballroom dancing. Through your dancing, you will find a boost in self-confidence, an increase in balance and an improvement in posture. Through your dancing, you will raise your heart rate, thus improving your cardiovascular health. Through your dancing, you will meet new people, make new friends, improve your social skills, and possibly establish new business contacts. The dance floor is a great equalizer. In a beginning class, everyone is a beginner, whether they’re a doctor or lawyer, a construction worker, waitress or school teacher. For that hour each week, the stresses of daily life simply melt away as you immerse yourself in learning the steps and listening to the music and connecting with your partner. It’s great therapy and a lot cheaper than a psychiatrist!

10. Most importantly of all, HAVE FUN! It’s not a race or a competition, everyone arrives at the same place eventually, dancing with their partner and having a wonderful time. You may experience moments of frustration with yourself or your partner, but don’t let that overshadow all the benefits of becoming a ballroom dancer. If you find you’re not enjoying what you’re doing, consider a different dance. Perhaps the foxtrot or waltz is not your cup of tea, try the cha-cha, tango or the swing. Given time, you’ll find your favorite and you can focus on that. My guess is that you’ll wind up like most ballroom dancers, loving them all and not wanting to stop until you’ve learned them all!

Welcome to the magical world of ballroom dancing!

Pamper your Feet with a Pair of Comfort Shoes

Are shoes a source of pain for you? Maybe you have an unusual sized foot or maybe your feet have undergone a trauma that has made it hard to find comfortable footwear. The good news is there are several brands of comfort, supportive footwear.

To name a few of the more popular ones: New Balance, Merrell, Clarks, Finn Comfort, Ecco and Chaco. They are popular because their shoes are proven to give you comfort and stability with every step. They are made of the best available materials and designed to make it easier to walk through your everyday life.

Sizes

Shoemakers know not every woman wears a 7½ medium, just as not every man wears a size 10. There are lots of people with unusual shoe sizes who need a comfortable shoe. Between the brands mentioned above, shoes are available in more than 50 sizes – from a size 1 to a 50. The shoes also come in a variety of widths – ranging from super slim to slim to narrow to medium to wide to extra wide and XX wide.

Price

And don’t think that just because they are well-made that you have to spend a fortune on good shoes. In fact, comfort shoes by the manufacturers listed above range in price from under $50 to a few over $250. For most people who have suffered with ill-fitting shoes, almost any price is worth paying if your feet are not going to hurt.

New Balance

New Balance was founded in 1906 by William J. Riley, who wanted to help people with foot problems by making arch supports and prescription footwear. He was quite successful, but when the next generation stepped into the company, New Balance developed the first performance running shoe – the Trackster, with its rippled sole. The shoe was a hit with athletes, coaches and runners. Today, New Balance continues to focus on running shoes, as well as other comfort shoes.

The men’s MR993BK is a classic running shoe, made with a pigskin and mesh upper. It is lightweight, but thoroughly supportive. The polyurethane midsole cushions the foot. There is extra cushioning in the heel for even more shock absorption.

A durable walking shoe for men is the MW780BR. The company calls it a breathable country walker that is lighter than most hiking boots. Made of Nubuck leather and mesh upper, the shoe is nice enough looking to be worn casually. Its stability web provides midfoot support and also reduces the shoe’s weight. This walker offers the maximum shock absorption and its non-marking rubber outsole will give the walker great traction.

New Balance also offers a country walker for women, the WW755BN. It is an attractive, casual slip-on shoe that you could wear on a hike, or with jeans into the grocery store. It has a split suede upper that lets your foot breathe. There is cushioning in the heel and forefoot for shock absorption. It also has durable and non-marking rubber outsole.

Merrell

Newer to the comfort shoe market, Merrell Footwear Company was founded in 1981with the goal of creating footwear that would promote an active lifestyle. The company first made shoes that could ensure high performance despite rugged terrain. Now, as people tend to specialize in their activities – rock climbing, trail hiking, running or walking – Merrell is making shoes to meet all demands. It also makes shoes for indoors, such as sandals and moccasins.

A classic hiking boot for women is the Siren Waterproof Mid Leather. With these rugged, supportive boots, you can hike mountains, cross rivers and jump across rocks with little effort. Made with Nubuck and pig suede leather upper, the bellows tongue will keep out dirt and debris. It has a comfort midsole and an air cushion in the heel to absorb shock and keep you stable on your feet.

Merrell also has a multisport shoe for men called the Moab GTX XCR. It’s a low-cut shoe that will keep your feet dry in most atmospheres. The upper is breathable mesh with waterproof  Nubuck leather. The mesh bellows tongue lets air get to your foot. It has a rubber toe bumper, a multi-sport plus sole for protection and traction, and an air cushion midsole for shock absorption.

Chaco

Chaco’s founder, Mark Paigen, was working as a whitewater rafting guide on the Colorado River in the mid-1980s when he started making sport sandals for himself and then the other guides. Paigen couldn’t refuse when customers wanted in on the shoes. Faced with growing demand for his sandals, Paigen launched Chaco in 1989.

Today, the company continues to produce a variety of sandals for men and women. They are known for their colorful synthetic uppers and the BioCentric footbeds that have molded arches, offer extra shock absorption and prevent over pronation. One of its better known sandals is the Zong EcoTread, a slip-on performance sandal with an outsole made partially of recycled rubber.

No matter what your foot size or shape, shoes should never be a source of pain in your life.  Comfortable, functional footwear isn’t a pipe-dream.  All of the aforementioned companies can provide you with a pair of comfortable, stylish shoes at a reasonable cost.  So what are you waiting for?
